The Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of
Minnesota Medical School Duluth invites applications for three non-tenure-track
faculty positions at the level of assistant professor. All disciplines related to biomedical
sciences will be considered; teaching needs are in physiology, pharmacology and
histology/pathology.

The successful candidate must have: A Ph.D., M.D., D.V.M. or equivalent doctoral
degree in a biomedical science; At least two years of post-doctoral experience
with documented evidence of strong scholarly activities; and essential
communication skills that are consistent with competence in medical school
teaching (i.e., lecture delivery, small group student interactions).
Preferred
qualifications:
The preferred candidate will have: Experience teaching in the areas of
physiology, pharmacology, histology, pathology or anatomy; Research interests
in areas that are related to the mission of the school and will complement
activities of current Biomedical Sciences faculty; Evidence of excellence in
teaching and communication (i.e., lecture, seminar or abstract delivery, grant
preparation and scientific publication); and Experience in student evaluation
and mentoring and small group settings.
Responsibilities to
include:
The Department of Biomedical Sciences seeks three assistant
professors dedicated to teaching excellence and cutting edge research. The
non-tenure teaching track has been developed to allow promotion based on
strengths in teaching, research and service.
Teaching: Teaching
expectations in our medical school will include large lectures, small group
facilitation, and active learning sessions.
There are also opportunities to teach at the undergraduate and graduate
level. It is the expectation that all
faculty in our department will serve as course directors for basic science
courses in our organ system based medical curriculum.
Research: All areas of
Biomedical Sciences research will be considered. To be considered for promotion, an average of
one publication per year minimum is expected.
Research that complements our department’s existing strengths in
neuroscience, toxicology, cardiovascular physiology and cancer are especially
welcome.
Service: All faculty
members contribute to the governance and functioning of our school, and service
on various committees including curriculum, student standing, and admissions
will be expected.
